How are we different than our competitors?
Most companies offering dedicated servers hosting will provide you with a server which will require a physical reboot when new software updates are available – leading to downtime for your site and business sometimes ranging in hours.
Why is updating necessary?
90% of attacks exploit out-of date systems.
Delaying system updates until convenient time is tempting, but is also VERY dangerous. Out-of-date systems are vulnerable to well known security problems; even a few days is a sufficiently long window of vulnerability for an attacker to strike.
Why rebooting is a big deal for a serious company?
Reboots require costly supervision and thorough planning. Complications frequently arise during reboots: services don’t start properly, or the interruption creates issues with a separate system such as client applications, remote access, etc. Even in the best case, rebooting can require hours of off-peak work hours, resulting in DOWNTIME for the hosting clients hosted on these servers.
How often is rebooting needed?
Most of the Linux vendors release patches with important new security and reliability updates about once a month. System administrators know that delaying these important updates is a security risk and is inconsistent with best practices, but rebooting to apply all of these updates is costly for both the companies and the clients hosting on the servers requiring a reboot.
